03-18-2019 - Disabled Veterans Arrive at RNO for 5th Annual Military to the Mountain
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport welcomed last night 22 disabled U.S. military veterans taking part in the 5th annual Military the Mountain event. The disabled veteran athletes, seven of whom are from the Reno-Tahoe area, will participate in a week-long adaptive ski program at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows as part of their physical and emotional recovery program.
“We are gathered in the shadow of our iconic ski sculpture,” said Marily Mora, president and CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. “It serves as a beautiful reminder to all of us at RNO, winter sports are part of our heritage. This welcome brings together our veterans and our community to say thank you.”

Injured U.S. military veterans from across the country are provided the opportunity to train for nine-weeks at the Adaptive Training Foundation program in Dallas, then receive a week of skiing at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows with the Achieve Tahoe Adaptive Ski Program. The program is fueled and inspired by the High Fives Foundation.

The high-energy welcome event included drummers and an electric guitarist. Following a processional from the gate to the ski statue, the veterans were formally recognized for their military service and their efforts to continue their recovery from devastating injuries.
